Alexander Spendiaryan was a student of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. A decisive meeting between them took place in 1896, during which Rimsky-Korsakov highly appreciated Spendiaryan's composing talent and introduced him to the circle of St. Petersburg musicians.
Close friendly relations were established between Spendiaryan and his teacher. Spendiaryan is recognized as one of Rimsky-Korsakov's students who became a major figure of a national musical school, specifically representing Armenia.
