Anna Maria dal Violin was a student of Antonio Vivaldi. She grew up in the Venetian Ospedale della Pietà, where she began learning to play the violin around 1706; this instrument was taught at the orphanage by Vivaldi. Anna Maria is considered the most outstanding of Vivaldi's students, and the composer wrote at least 28 concertos for her.
