Augustin Pfleger studied in Nuremberg under Johann Erasmus Kindermann, the leading composer and teacher of the Nuremberg school in the first half of the 17th century. This period of study, which took place before Pfleger's appointments in the 1650s and 1660s, indicates that he received his musical training directly from one of Nuremberg’s most acclaimed organists and pedagogues.
Kindermann himself was known for his influential teaching career, and Pfleger is explicitly listed among his pupils. Through this relationship, Pfleger became part of the musical lineage shaped by Kindermann’s instruction, which was rooted in both traditional Nuremberg practices and the newer Italian styles that Kindermann had studied during his travels.
