During this period, Carl Czerny also studied under Johann Nepomuk Hummel, who became one of the key influences on his development as a pianist. Hummel was regarded as an important link between the Classical and early Romantic styles, and Czerny later drew upon his teacher’s virtuosic approach and refined pianistic technique. Czerny eventually became recognized as one of Hummel’s star pupils, benefiting from the composer’s expertise in expressive melody, elegant phrasing, and advanced keyboard writing.
