Carl von Weber → Georg Joseph Vogler

Studied under

Carl Maria von Weber studied under Georg Joseph Vogler beginning in mid‑1803, when he moved to Vienna to continue his musical education with the Abbé. Vogler, a prominent theorist, organist, and founder of several influential music schools, played a decisive role in Weber’s artistic development. Under Vogler’s supervision Weber deepened his knowledge of composition and was part of a circle that included fellow pupils such as Giacomo Meyerbeer. Vogler later recommended Weber for the position of Director at the Breslau Opera in 1804, demonstrating his confidence in his student’s abilities. Weber revered Vogler, maintained close ties with him, and benefited from his mentorship during these formative years.
