Christoph Graupner studied music at the St. Thomas School in Leipzig, where Johann Schelle served as one of his teachers. During this period, Graupner received formal musical instruction directly under Schelle, whose role as cantor placed him in charge of the school’s musical education.
Johann Schelle, an influential Baroque composer and educator, taught Graupner during his tenure as cantor of the Thomasschule from 1677 until his death in 1701. Schelle’s guidance contributed to Graupner’s early musical formation before Graupner departed Leipzig in 1705 to begin his professional career.
