Domenico Cimarosa studied under Gennaro Manna after being admitted to the Conservatorio di Santa Maria di Loreto in Naples in 1761. Manna, a prominent composer and primo maestro of the conservatory, was one of the principal teachers who provided Cimarosa with formal training in composition during his eleven years of study there.
Under Manna’s guidance, Cimarosa developed the foundational skills that shaped his early musical development, studying alongside other masters of the Neapolitan School and beginning to compose sacred works and early operatic pieces while still a student.
