Eduard Rappoldi → Georg Hellmesberger

Studied under

Eduard Rappoldi studied under Georg Hellmesberger Sr. at the Vienna Conservatory (Konservatorium der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde) during the early 1850s. Sources indicate that his period of study with Hellmesberger occurred either from 1851 to 1854 or beginning in 1854, but all agree that Hellmesberger was one of his principal violin teachers during Rappoldi’s formative years. This education took place in Vienna, Rappoldi’s birthplace, at a time when Hellmesberger was an established violinist, pedagogue, and concertmaster.

Under Hellmesberger’s guidance, Rappoldi deepened his technical and artistic command of the violin, building on his earlier training with Leopold Jansa and Josef Böhm. The instruction he received from Hellmesberger played a key role in preparing him for his later orchestral career, beginning with his position in the Vienna Court Opera Orchestra shortly after his studies, and ultimately supporting his development into a prominent violinist, conductor, and chamber musician.
