Errico Petrella continued his musical education in Naples, where he became a pupil of the renowned composer and music theorist Giovanni Furno. Furno, one of the most respected teachers of the Neapolitan school, instructed Petrella during the early years of the young composer’s formation, prior to Petrella’s operatic debut in 1828.
Giovanni Furno, a celebrated pedagogue who taught in several Neapolitan conservatories until his death in 1837, was known for training many distinguished composers. Under Furno’s guidance, Petrella studied composition within the rich musical traditions of Naples, benefiting from his teacher’s mastery of partimenti and long-established pedagogical methods.
