Francesco Morlacchi continued his musical education under Luigi Caruso in Perugia, where Caruso served as Kapellmeister of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and was the founder and director of the public music school. During this period of study, Morlacchi composed his earliest works, including Via crucis (1802) and Gli angeli al divino sepolcro (1803). Caruso’s position and influence in Perugia provided Morlacchi with formal training beyond his initial family instruction, shaping his early development as a composer.
