Francesco Morlacchi studied under Stanislao Mattei after leaving Loreto due to dissatisfaction with Niccolò Zingarelli’s teaching methods. In 1804 he moved to Bologna and, beginning in 1805, continued his musical education at Mattei’s school, which was part of the Bolognese Philharmonic Liceo. Under Mattei’s instruction, Morlacchi deepened his training in composition and counterpoint, becoming part of a lineage that also included students such as Gioachino Rossini and Gaetano Donizetti.
