Franz Ignaz Beck studied under Antonin Stamic (Johann Wenzel Anton Stamitz) in Mannheim after receiving his early musical training from his father. As director of instrumental music and leader of the Mannheim court orchestra, Stamitz oversaw Beck’s advanced musical education during the 1740s and early 1750s, a period in which Beck’s talent was quickly recognized and supported by Elector Charles Theodore. Under Stamitz’s guidance, Beck became associated with the developing Mannheim school and was considered one of Stamitz’s most gifted pupils.
