Friedrich Wilhelm Pixis studied composition in Vienna under Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, beginning in 1805 according to Russian sources. During this period, after his family settled in Vienna, he and his brother Johann Peter Pixis received instruction from Albrechtsberger, one of the most renowned theorists and teachers of the Classical era.
Under Albrechtsberger’s guidance in Vienna, Pixis deepened his training in harmony and counterpoint, studying with a teacher famous for his strict and methodical approach. This period of study formed an important part of Pixis’s musical education before he later moved to Prague and began his own influential teaching career.
