Giacomo Meyerbeer → Franz Lauska

Studied under

Giacomo Meyerbeer studied under Franz Lauska during his childhood in Berlin, where Lauska served as his first keyboard instructor. Beginning around 1797, when Meyerbeer was still known as Jakob Liebmann Beer and only about six years old, Lauska provided him with foundational piano training. Lauska, a respected pianist and pedagogue at the Prussian court, introduced the young Meyerbeer to disciplined keyboard technique and early performance practice.

This teacher–student relationship played an important role in Meyerbeer’s early musical development, preparing him for his public debut in 1801 and setting the groundwork for his later virtuoso reputation. Lauska’s instruction helped cultivate Meyerbeer’s pianistic abilities, which were remarkable for his age and contributed to his initial recognition in Berlin’s musical circles.
