Giacomo Tritto studied counterpoint under Pasquale Cafaro at the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini in Naples, where he enrolled at age eleven. Cafaro was one of his principal teachers during his formative musical training, guiding him in counterpoint alongside Tritto’s other instructors, Nicola Fago and Lorenzo Fago.
Cafaro later continued to teach at the conservatory until 1785, during which time Tritto became recognized as his most famous pupil, reflecting the lasting influence of Cafaro’s instruction on Tritto’s development as a composer.
