Giovanni Gabrieli → Andrea Gabrieli

Giovanni Gabrieli was likely a student of his uncle Andrea Gabrieli, and may even have been brought up by him, as suggested by Giovanni’s dedication in 1587 describing himself as “little less than a son.” Their relationship extended into their professional lives: Andrea was an important formative influence on Giovanni’s musical development, and Giovanni later edited and published much of Andrea’s music after his uncle’s death, preserving a significant portion of Andrea’s legacy.
