Giovanni Battista Pergolesi studied composition in Naples under Francesco Durante after moving there in 1725. Durante, a leading figure of the Neapolitan School and an influential teacher at the city’s conservatories, was among Pergolesi’s principal instructors during his formative years, helping shape the young composer’s development in counterpoint and the Neapolitan musical tradition.
