Giuseppe Nicolini studied under Domenico Cimarosa at the Conservatory of Sant'Onofrio a Porta Capuana in Naples, where he was admitted in 1780 under the patronage of Duke Gian-Girolamo Sforza-Fogliani. During his years of study, which lasted until 1784, Cimarosa was one of the composers who instructed him, alongside Fedele Fenaroli and Giacomo Insanguine. This period marked Nicolini’s formal musical training and placed him within the Neapolitan tradition that Cimarosa himself represented.
