Heinrich Henkel studied harmony, theory, and composition under Johann Anton André in Frankfurt. André brought the young Henkel close to his work, employing him as an assistant in his work with the archive of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
As André gradually lost his sight, he dictated a counterpoint textbook to Henkel, who later published it after his teacher’s death with his own preface.
