Ignaz Moscheles studied under Friedrich Dionys Weber at the Prague Conservatory during his early musical training. Weber, a conservative composer and influential pedagogue who later became director of the Conservatory, instructed Moscheles in piano and sought to guide him toward the works of Bach, Mozart, and Clementi, attempting to curb the young pianist’s growing passion for Beethoven’s music.
