Ignaz Moscheles studied under Johann Georg Albrechtsberger after settling in Vienna in 1808. Under Albrechtsberger’s guidance he undertook rigorous training in counterpoint and theory, an important part of his musical formation during his early years in the city. This period of study connected Moscheles with one of Vienna’s leading authorities on composition, whose pupils included many eminent musicians of the Classical and early Romantic era.
