Ignaz Seyfried studied under Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Vienna, where he was born on 15 August 1776. His own handwritten memoirs confirm that Mozart was one of his principal teachers, providing him with early pianistic training alongside Jan Koželuh. This guidance formed part of Seyfried’s foundational musical education before his later studies in composition with Johann Georg Albrechtsberger.
Seyfried’s recollections also indicate that his period of study occurred during Mozart’s final years, as he later recounted anecdotes about the composer’s last days and the first performances of The Magic Flute. These memories underscore his direct exposure to Mozart’s musicianship and teaching during a formative stage of his development.
