Gottfried (Jacob) Weber developed the theoretical approaches of Georg Joseph Vogler, expanding upon Vogler’s harmonic teachings after the latter’s death. Vogler’s writings on harmony, although often empirical, exerted strong influence on subsequent theorists, and Weber is specifically cited as one of those who further developed these ideas. In Germany during the early nineteenth century, Weber built on Vogler’s theoretical foundation while producing his own influential works such as Versuch einer geordneten Theorie der Tonsetzkunst (1817–1821), which reflected the continuation and reinterpretation of principles first advanced by Vogler.
