Jaime Nuno studied under the Italian composer Saverio Mercadante after receiving a special scholarship that enabled him to continue his musical education in Italy. He traveled to Naples, where Mercadante was a prominent composer and director of the conservatory, and received advanced musical training directly under his guidance.
This period of study in Naples formed an important stage in Nuno’s artistic development, occurring before his return to Barcelona in 1851, when he assumed the position of director of the Queen’s Regimental Band. His apprenticeship with Mercadante provided him with the technical and stylistic foundation that later supported his successful career as a composer and conductor, including his creation of the music for the Mexican national anthem.
