Johann Adolf Hasse → Alessandro Scarlatti

Studied under

During the mid-1720s, while Johann Adolf Hasse was living in Naples, the success of his serenata Antonio e Cleopatra in 1725 led, according to Johann Joachim Quantz, to his introduction to Alessandro Scarlatti. Scarlatti subsequently became Hasse’s teacher and friend, guiding the young composer during his early Italian period.

As a student of Scarlatti, Hasse adapted his compositional style in several respects to mirror that of his mentor, reflecting the influence of the Neapolitan master. This formative period of study in Naples shaped Hasse’s development and contributed to his later prominence as a leading composer of opera seria.
