1786–1788 and again from 1793 to 1816, Johann Nepomuk Hummel studied under Antonio Salieri. During these periods in Vienna, Salieri instructed him primarily in singing and provided an important part of his broader musical training.
Salieri became one of Hummel’s closest mentors, and their relationship extended beyond the classroom: he was regarded as Hummel’s closest friend in Vienna and even served as a witness at his marriage. This personal and artistic bond complemented Hummel’s wider studies with other Viennese masters and contributed significantly to his development during these formative years.
