Johann Schelle → Heinrich Schutz

Studied under

From 1655 to 1657 Johann Schelle was a choirboy in the Saxon court chapel in Dresden, where he studied under the renowned composer and Kapellmeister Heinrich Schütz. During these years Schütz personally served as his teacher, providing Schelle with his earliest formal musical training.

Schütz also supported Schelle beyond this initial period of instruction; in 1657, acting on Schütz’s recommendation, Schelle was able to continue his musical development as a singer in Wolfenbüttel, demonstrating the continued influence of his teacher on his early career.
