Lambert Massart studied under Rodolphe Kreutzer after being denied admission to the Paris Conservatory in 1827, despite having received a scholarship from the Dutch king to study there. Kreutzer, who was a professor at the Conservatory and an influential figure in the French violin school, was dissatisfied with the institution’s decision and began to teach Massart privately at his home in Paris.
This private instruction marked an important formative period in Massart’s education, giving him direct access to one of the leading violinists and pedagogues of his time. Kreutzer’s guidance helped shape Massart’s musical development and contributed to his later success as a violinist and a distinguished teacher at the Paris Conservatory.
