Louis Köhler studied piano under Carl Maria von Bocklet during his period of advanced musical training in Vienna between 1839 and 1843. Bocklet, already a prominent pianist and teacher in the city, provided Köhler with instruction in piano performance.
This teacher–student relationship formed a significant part of Köhler's Viennese education and contributed to his development as a pianist, composer, and later as a respected pedagogue.
