Luigi Ricci received his musical education at the San Sebastiano Conservatory in Naples, where he studied under Giovanni Furno. Furno, a prominent representative of the Neapolitan school and a renowned music theorist and pedagogue, instructed Ricci during his formative years.
As one of Furno’s students, Ricci benefited from the teacher’s long experience in composition and partimento, joining a distinguished line of pupils that included notable composers such as Vincenzo Bellini and Saverio Mercadante. Ricci’s early training under Furno in Naples directly contributed to the development of his skills, enabling him to compose his first opera while still a student in 1823.
