Maria Eshchenko (1923–2000) and Natalia Eshchenko (1926–2015) were sisters, born in Kharkiv to the singer Alexander Eshchenko. Both sisters pursued careers as professional pianists and music educators.
The sisters shared a similar educational background, both graduating from the Kharkiv Conservatory in the class of M. Khazanovsky. They also both completed their postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory under the supervision of Professor S. Feinberg.
Both Maria and Natalia became professors at the Kharkiv University of Arts (also known as the Kharkiv Conservatory or Institute of Arts). Maria served as the head of the special piano department for 18 years, while Natalia taught at the institution from 1947 until 2006. Their pedagogical and performing activities have been the subject of academic study.
