Pietro Alessandro Guglielmi studied under Francesco Durante at the Conservatorio di Santa Maria di Loreto in Naples, where he was admitted in 1746 through the patronage of the Duke of Massa. Durante served as his composition teacher during these formative years, instructing him alongside fellow students Giovanni Paisiello and Domenico Cimarosa.
Guglielmi continued his studies under Durante until 1754, during which time he advanced to the position of maestrino (junior teacher) in 1750, reflecting the progress he made under Durante's guidance within the Neapolitan musical tradition.
