Rodolphe Kreutzer studied under Antonin Stamic after receiving his first musical instruction from his father. Stamic, a distinguished violinist and pedagogue who had moved from Mannheim to Paris in 1772 and worked alongside Kreutzer’s father in the chapel of Marie Antoinette, became Kreutzer’s formal teacher when the young musician showed rapid progress. Under Stamic’s guidance in Paris, Kreutzer developed the foundational violin technique and musical training that shaped his early career and contributed to his emergence as a leading representative of the French violin school.
