Sergei Korguev graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Leopold Auer in 1888. He served as a concertmaster for the orchestra of conservatory students and graduates established by Auer.
From 1927, Korguev taught at the Institute of Musical Art in New York, where his teacher Auer was also working at the time.
