Stanisław Barcewicz studied composition under Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky while attending the Moscow Conservatory, which he completed in 1876. Although his primary violin instructors were Ferdinand Laub and Ivan Grzhimali, he also undertook studies in Tchaikovsky’s composition class, establishing an academic relationship with the renowned Russian composer.

This period of study placed Barcewicz in direct contact with Tchaikovsky’s musical ideas and stylistic approach. The relationship contributed to Barcewicz’s artistic development, later reflected in his frequent performances of Tchaikovsky’s works, including a notable concert of the composer’s music at the 1878 Paris World Exhibition.
