Stefano Pavesi completed his musical education in Crema under the renowned composer Giuseppe Gazzaniga. After returning from Geneva, Pavesi studied with Gazzaniga, who at that time was an established composer and, since 1791, the musical director of Crema Cathedral. This mentorship formally began in 1802, when Pavesi became Gazzaniga's pupil.
The teacher‑student relationship in Crema played a decisive role in shaping Pavesi’s musical development, providing him with advanced training just before his emergence as an opera composer in Venice. Gazzaniga, already an influential figure in sacred and operatic music, guided Pavesi during these formative years until Pavesi commenced his professional career.
