Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni is believed by some sources to have studied under Giovanni Legrenzi in Venice, although definitive documentation is lacking. Biographical accounts note that the identity of Albinoni’s teacher is unknown, but several scholars propose Legrenzi as a likely mentor due to their geographic proximity in Venice, Legrenzi’s prominence as a composer and teacher, and Albinoni’s early musical development in the same city.
Further support for this connection comes from lists of Legrenzi’s students, in which Tomaso Albinoni is sometimes included—such as in biographical entries that identify him among the pupils taught by Legrenzi during his tenure as a music teacher and later maestro di cappella in Venice. If Albinoni indeed studied under Legrenzi, this mentorship would have occurred before Legrenzi’s death in 1690, during Albinoni’s formative years in the late 1680s.
