Vincenzo Maria Pintorno studied under Pietro Platania while attending the Conservatorio Vincenzo Bellini in Palermo, where he received instruction in counterpoint and instrumentation. Platania, a renowned Italian composer and educator who had served as director of the Palermo Conservatory earlier in his career, guided Pintorno during the formative period of his musical education before Pintorno completed his studies with honors in 1883.
