Wilhelm Stade studied under Johann Christian Friedrich Schneider in Dessau, receiving his musical training at Schneider's music school between 1833 and 1836. Schneider, a prominent German organist, composer, and pedagogue, counted Stade among his many notable students during his tenure as court Kapellmeister of Anhalt-Dessau and director of the Dessau music school.
The Dessau institution in which Stade trained had been founded by Schneider himself, reflecting the pedagogical vision he later summarized in his influential textbook Elementarbuch der Harmonie und Tonsetzkunst. Schneider’s reputation as a distinguished performer and teacher, strengthened by his broader career as both organist and pianist, provided Stade with a rigorous and well-established musical foundation.
