Albert Mikhailovich Tarakanov (August 15, 1938 – January 5, 2026) was a Soviet and Russian pianist and music pedagogue. He held the honorary title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation (1994). Born in Saratov, he showed musical talent from an early age and remained closely associated with the city throughout his life.

He received his initial musical education in Saratov, graduating from the Central Children's Music School and the Music College in the class of S. S. Benditsky. In 1963, he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under the renowned Professor Heinrich Neuhaus. Upon graduation, he returned to Saratov to work as a soloist for the Saratov Regional Philharmonic.

Tarakanov's performing career included a vast repertoire comprising over 30 solo programs and 27 concertos for piano and orchestra. He toured extensively both within Russia and internationally, performing in England, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, and China. Alongside his performance career, he taught at the L. V. Sobinov Saratov State Conservatory for over 60 years, starting in 1963. He served as the head of the Special Piano Department and became a professor in 1992.

As a dedicated educator, Tarakanov trained more than 110 graduates who work in Russia and abroad. Among his students are numerous Honored Artists of Russia and laureates of international competitions. He also taught at an international summer school in London. In 1993, he became the organizer and artistic director of the Heinrich Neuhaus Russian Festival in Saratov. He passed away in Saratov at the age of 87.
