Anton Träg
Anton Träg was an Austrian cellist born in Schwechat and the son of the composer Andreas Träg. From 1834 to 1841, he studied at the Conservatory of the Vienna Society of Friends of Music under Josef Merk, later teaching at the institution for a short period.
Between 1845 and 1852, Träg served as a professor at the Prague Conservatory, where his students included I. I. Seifert and Jan Örtl. During this period in Prague, he performed extensively as a chamber musician, notably as a member of a piano trio with Bedřich Smetana and Otto von Königslöw.
As a soloist, Träg was credited with returning the concertos of Bernhard Romberg, which were considered outdated at the time, to the active repertoire. In the final years of his life, he worked in the orchestra of the Vienna Court Opera. As a composer, he wrote a concertino for cello and orchestra as well as various chamber works for his instrument.
