Boris Abramovich Shatskes (6 August 1931, Rostov-on-Don – 20 May 1985, Moscow) was a Soviet chess player and a music pedagogue, awarded the title of Master of Sports of the USSR in 1961. He was the son of pianist and music teacher Abram Vladimirovich Shatskes and Esfir Fyodorovna Samter.

He studied at the Central Music School attached to the Moscow Conservatory, first with T. A. Bobovich and later in the class of A. B. Goldenweiser. Among his own students were Dmitry Feofanov and Tatyana Direktorenko.

Alongside his musical teaching, Shatskes was active in competitive chess. As a member of the USSR Armed Forces team, he won a bronze medal at the 4th USSR Team Cup in 1964 in Moscow, and he also played in the championships of the Burevestnik and Spartak sports societies.

Shatskes died in a car accident and was buried at the Donskoy Cemetery together with his parents. His name is also associated with piano publications issued in Moscow, including a 1971 volume titled “English Opening” and a posthumous 1988 edition of “Concert Arrangements” for piano.
