Edward Auer

Edward Auer is an American pianist and music educator. Born in New York, he pursued his musical education in Los Angeles under the tutelage of Aube Tzerko and Leonard Stein. He subsequently studied at the Juilliard School with Rosina Lhévinne and completed his training in Paris with Julius Katchen.

Auer established his international reputation through success in major competitions during the 1960s. In 1965, he received the fifth prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition, followed by the fifth prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1966. In 1967, he won the Marguerite Long Competition in Paris. He is particularly renowned as a specialist in the works of Frédéric Chopin and has recorded an album comprising all of Chopin's waltzes. He currently teaches at Indiana University.
