Ekaterina Mechetina
Ekaterina Vasilyevna Mechetina is a prominent Russian pianist and a soloist of the Moscow State Philharmonic. Born in Moscow in 1978 into a musical family, she began her piano studies at the age of four and made her stage debut at five. She received her education at the Central Music School and the Moscow Conservatory, graduating with honors and completing postgraduate studies under the tutelage of Sergei Dorensky. Her talent was recognized early on, leading to a concert tour of Japan at age 12 and a series of victories at prestigious international competitions, including the Mozart Prize in Verona, the Busoni Competition, and the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati where she won the Gold Medal.
Mechetina performs approximately 60 concerts a year and has appeared in over 40 countries. She collaborates with major orchestras such as the Virtuosi of Moscow, the National Philharmonic of Russia, and the Russian National Orchestra. Throughout her career, she has worked with celebrated conductors including Mstislav Rostropovich, Vladimir Spivakov, and Vladimir Fedoseev. She shares a special creative bond with composer Rodion Shchedrin, who entrusted her with the world premiere of his Sixth Piano Concerto. Her discography includes recordings of Rachmaninoff's works as well as cross-genre collaborations with rock musician Vyacheslav Butusov.
Beyond her performance career, Mechetina is an active public figure in the Russian cultural sphere. She has served on the Presidential Council for Culture and Art since 2011 and organizes the "Green Noise" International Youth Arts Festival in Surgut. Her contributions to music have been recognized with the Presidential Prize for Young Culture Workers and the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. She is also known for her political engagement, having served as a trusted representative for Vladimir Putin and publicly supported Russian state policies regarding Crimea and Ukraine.
