Marianna Chernyavska is a prominent Ukrainian pianist, musicologist, and educator. She currently serves as the Vice-rector for Research and a Professor of the Special Piano Department at the Kharkiv National University of Arts named after I. P. Kotlyarevsky. Her professional life is characterized by a harmonious blend of concert performance, deep academic research, and pedagogical leadership.

Born in Kharkiv, Chernyavska received her early musical training from B. O. Arkhimovych. She graduated with honors from the Kharkiv Institute of Arts in 1990, where she studied under Professor M. O. Yeshchenko. She furthered her education at the Kyiv State Conservatory (now the National Music Academy of Ukraine) under the guidance of Professor I. M. Ryabov, completing her assistantship-internship in 1992. In 1987, she achieved significant early success by winning the First Prize at the Heino Eller International Piano Competition in Tallinn, Estonia.

As a scholar, Chernyavska earned her PhD in 2002 with a dissertation titled "L. van Beethoven and Piano Culture of the Late 18th – Early 19th Centuries (The Problem of Piano Texture Formation)." She has authored over 50 scientific works, including the influential textbook "Pianism of the Beethoven Era: The Formation of Piano Texture" (2015). Her research frequently explores the history of piano performance, contemporary performance practices, and the legacy of the Kharkiv piano school. She serves as the editor-in-chief and board member for several prestigious musicological journals in Ukraine and abroad.

In her career as a performer, she maintains an active schedule of solo and ensemble concerts. She is frequently invited to serve on juries for international piano competitions in countries such as Austria, Italy, and Lithuania, and she conducts masterclasses for aspiring pianists globally. Her pedagogical work has resulted in numerous students winning international competitions and the successful defense of many doctoral and PhD dissertations under her supervision.

Since 2021, Chernyavska has played a key administrative role as the Vice-rector for Research at the Kharkiv National University of Arts. She is actively involved in international cooperation, representing Ukrainian musical culture at global forums such as ELIA (European League of Institutes of the Arts) and collaborating with institutions like the Utrecht University of the Arts. In 2024, she was appointed as an expert for scientific activities by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
