Natalia Alexandrovna Fomina (1930–2012) was a distinguished pianist and professor whose professional life was inextricably linked with the Kazan State Conservatory from 1960 until her final days. She held the titles of Honored Worker of Arts of the TASSR and the Russian Federation, as well as Honorary Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Over the course of her long career, she educated over a hundred musicians who continue to teach and perform around the world.

Colleagues remember Fomina for her uncompromising professional standards and direct personality. She was known for her piercing gaze and constant presence of a cigarette, often rigorously questioning fellow faculty members about students' technical inaccuracies regarding articulation, pedaling, or adherence to the musical text. Her strictness was regarded as a manifestation of professional honesty and a deep dedication to the purity and perfection of musical expression, reflecting a form of independence and inner freedom that commanded respect.
